Can you swap hard drives from one Xbox 360 to another?
My original is a samsung, and the new one is the samsung-toshiba ms Can I just swap the boards so I don't have to deal with flashing the damn things? Thanks in advance.
If you just swap the boards and put the xbox back together it will only play dvds. This is what I have 1. Last edited: Feb 21, You can just swap mainboards use your original mainboard in the new drive hook all connections back up and it will work. If you don't want to deal with flashing you can open up the DVD drives and swap the boards in them.
That'll work since they are both Samsungs drives. All Samsung drive are the same except for the firmware on them.
MemnockFeb 21, Yep, they both were the same samsung drives with different firmware, so I swapped the boards, and now my xbox works better than before. Quick question: Say I have a Benq that I am going to replace with a samsung. Can I just replace the boards from the original Benq to the samsung?
Thanks for all of your help. Without this site, I would be in the dark!!! Thanks again for all of your contributions. No that can only be with the same brand of drive and for Hitachis I think they even need to be same firmware model.
So for installing a Benq drive on on motherboard that originally had a Samsung drive you'll need to extract the key from the original drive and inject it into the Benq drives firmware. You'll also have to spoof it as that Samsung drive. You must log in or sign up to reply here. Show Ignored Content. Share This Page Tweet.Log in or Sign up.
I got a new one today, and my friend has a toshiba but he wants hitachi, and my broken one is hitachi. So, I'm going to swap them for him, but, I just need someone to tell me what I have to do to do it. Thanks for any help.
TsmithApr 10, So, it's possible for me to switch the toshiba out for the hitachi? Last edited: Apr 10, Ok well, I've got in my new one, a rom 78, which is incompatible with my xusb I was wondering if there's a way for me to swap the two drives, with only being able to hook one of them up to my computer?
TsmithApr 11, Last edited: Apr 11, Is there any way to do it by looking at he drive or the motherboard? Because I remember reading somewhere that you could do that. I meant getting the key for the firmware without hooking it up to the computer, I can hook up the one I want to put in, but the original I can't hook up beacuse it won't work in my computer Is there a way to get the dvd drive key without hooking it up to a computer?

It always says disc read error but sometimes plays the game after a half hour of messing with it. I want to purchase just the drive and swap it out because my warranty is more then expired.
I opened the case anyway which voided it a few days ago. Is there any ideas besides buying a brand new console? Check these sites. They normally have disc drives. I personally prefer llama, because you know what you're getting. Since you already voided your warranty, I think one of these may fix your problem. You may want to try that first before buying a whole new drive.

Yes you can swap hard drives to use your profile and game saves on any other xbox console, but if you bought content such as games or videos then it is tied to the original console it was purchased on this being a DRM issue, you will have to transfer the license to the new console if you wish to use games on the new console with out having to be signed on xbox live.
Yes they're interchangeable but if you plan on doing this as a permanent solution there's times where people lose XBL Arcade downloads Full Games. I had that happen to me not long ago. It only takes a minute to sign up. When I hit A, it gives me a white error screen pics to come. The Internet tells me this could happen if the DVD-drive motor is dying, but also if the DVD-drive firmware was previously hacked incorrectly. I don't want to pirate games, I just want to have a working DVD-drive.
If you already tried dumping the DVD key from the drive that came with the Xbox and flashing it to your replacement drive using the correct firmware for the replacement drive as well and the console still does not boot games displays "Play DVD" when a game is insertedyou don't have the correct DVD key and the console will never boot a game. There are ways to retrieve DVD keys from the motherboard however they fall under "ridiculous hardware hacks" as you called them and will probably be more effort than it's really worth.
You can check what kernel your Xbox is running under the system info. I don't know much about this hack because it's fairly new and I myself have been out of the Xbox modding scene for a while now. Those, unfortunately, are the only two ways to dump a DVD key from a motherboard, so if you don't feel like going through the effort of the methods posted above, your Xbox will not boot anything besides DVD movies.
While we're on the subject of DVD drive flashing and replacement I'll clarify some things for you for future reference. Some places say you can just take any old drive from another Xboxbut that didn't work - I still get the same error. You can indeed use any model of DVD drive found in the Xbox 's as long as the DVD key on the drive matches the DVD key on the motherboard; if the keys don't match, your console won't boot games.
Howeverif you intend to use this console on Xbox Live, you must replace the drive with the same model drive that was originally in the Xbox — if you don't, you will be console-banned from Xbox Live. Meaning that console will no longer be allowed on Live. Some places say you need to have the exact same manufacturer and model DVD drive, and it should work. I have reason to suspect this is not the original drive see belowand there is no place which can tell me what model DVD-drive my model Xbox should have come with.
If you wish to access Xbox Live, your best bet of keeping your console from getting banned is to use the model of DVD drive that originally came with that console.
Here is the list of Xbox motherboards. Generally the motherboard DVD drive pair goes something like this. Every revision post-Falcon contains some variation of a Lite-on Drive for security and performance reasons.
You will probably have to have it sent in so that they can put the correct drive model, firmware and activation codes into the console to get it working.
Although, more than likely they will just send you a new refurbished console and either strip that one for parts or fix it up to send out as a replacement unit.
Dude get the drive keys from the nand and flash a proper drive replacement it's simple and well worth the effort. Look for the kernel reset glitch kit on devineo. The kit they sell is 20 bucks and its the only one I've found compatible with jasper boards.
Simple swap the chip set for the exact same model drive situated inside your old drive If you still have it and place it in the new one it is only a matter of pulling out three ribbon cables. Google is your Friend Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.

Check out our special offer for new subscribers to Microsoft Business Basic. Learn more. I cant play any of my games because all of them are disc and they all get ejected This is an excellent idea. One person could buy a disc and all their friends could pop it in and convert it to digital!
Then again With PC games like the sims 4 and cities skylines, if you get the disc version, you can play it digitally. During disc installation, the game offers you a one time installation with say one account from steam or origin or etc. Microsoft could do it. This way disc versions played digitally could be restricted to one xbox account and can be played without the owning account on the console it is installed. The owner can install it on another console, and if other people want to play it on the other console, they have to log into the account person who got it.
The other thing is that Microsoft wanted this exact same thing when the Xbox One launched, they wanted to allow you to install the game and then literally throw the disc away, but it was all done by the system and didn't need codes, the only downside was that you had to sign into Xbox Live once every 24 hours.
What was even better was that because publishers would gain sales fewer games traded in publishers were apparently going to allow the owner of the game to "share" it with some of their friends ten was being mentioned before launch.
Unfortunately none of this happened because a certain set of people read in the news reports afterwards DRM!!!!! So to the original poster, this will never never never never never ever happen, purely because Microsoft tried it once, and lost a huge amount of sales.
Microsoft were planning it before xbox 1 launched but far more people were against it because 24hr check ins. Its and the internet infrastructure is not reliable, it doesnt care which ISP you are with. Far too many people complained about it, and microsoft if they ignored the majority who didnt want 24hr check ins, it would be to microsofts detriment. You see, people said back in or whenever the Xbox One got released "Internet isn't reliable" "What if my internet is down for weeks"?
Microsoft had that covered, they basically said they would allow your console to sign in over your phone. I think it's doable, not to the extent that OP suggested to share with friends, but to not need insert new disk to play a new game.
So it becomes like digital purchase. Require being online to install disk, you usually are to get possible updates anyway. And serial from disk may not be installed on multiple machines if registered this way, and never to be sold second hand either maybe. Don't know all details needed when you get a refurbished machine and similar, but could be fixed at servicestation and maybe disk can be swapped over if that is ok. But sure that all publishers of games prefer if everybody went digital, then no second hand possible.
So to improve for purchase on disk is not likely. I will prefer disks anyway, don't want to waste so much bandwidth downloading. I would have to double internet fee just to get one AAA game a month, and take 15 hours or so each time anyway. You can get to a store and back in an hour. It wasn't just the DRM, it was 1.
How to Upgrade/Clone Xbox 360 Slim HDD to A Bigger HDD in 3 Steps
Arqade is a question and answer site for passionate videogamers on all platforms. It only takes a minute to sign up. WE are looking at replacing our xbox s console. It came with a GB hard drive. If we were to purchase another xbox console s or ebut it came with a lower GB hard drive, could we transfer our GB hard drive into it? The User ID is simple. It matches your Xbox Live account, and allows your user to play saves and content assigned to that user. The Device ID is more complicated.
This ID matches whatever Device aka console the content was originally purchased on. Save games are not a concern here, only purchases. If the Device ID of a purchase matches the console, then any user on the console can access that content. However if the Device ID is different, then only the original user can play the content as long as they are signed into Xbox Live. Even if you deleted and re-downloaded the content, it will still use the Device ID of whatever console first downloaded the content.
To get around this, you will need to perform a License Transfer on the new console. You can only do this once every 4 months. If you purchased a new console or had your console repaired, use the license transfer option on your console. Go to settingsand then select Account.
Other profiles can now use content on your console. This should get you set. As long as you follow these instructions to transfer the licensing, there shouldn't be any further issues. Do note that the original model Xbox uses a different kind of HDD. If you did get one, it wouldn't be compatible. Since you mentioned you will be getting a different model, this shouldn't apply, but I included it for completeness.
